Qantas directors are expected to suspend plans to raise $800 million in the proposed float of the airlines' Frequent Flyer business. The board will decide late this month whether to proceed with the initial public offering aimed at selling 40 per cent of the popular loyalty scheme that analysts have valued at $2 billion.

Travelers have lately been complaining more often about frequent-flier programs, namely the lack of award seats on desirable flights, escalating fees for ostensibly free tickets and quicker expiration dates of miles. Airlines counter that they are giving away more awards than ever, despite generally fuller planes, and that most programs allow members to book any open seat on any flight, albeit in exchange for more miles.
